The heaviest thing to carry is regret. • This topic came up yesterday. I thought of a list of things I regretted not doing/preparing/handling/accomplishing in 2024- simply because of fear. Fear of rejection- fear of losing. • I’ve seen a lot of regret between people I love. My dad… I could write a few short stories about the conversations with my dad on our drives to and from our various road trip, doctors appt, hospital days, border waits, chemo infusions and days of just sitting on the couch… • He would say “I wish I knew how to talk, to say the things I feel”. He didn’t talk at my wedding, he told my mom he wouldn’t have the words, he told me, I’m just going to cry. He couldn’t share any words at his brothers funeral- and he wanted to. He wanted to tell people how much he loved them, that he respected them, they were the only dad he remembered. • Even at the end of his life he had to tell my mom the things he couldn’t tell us. • I know he regretted a lot. He thought the things he did wrong were coming back to punish him… my regret is telling him more than I did, that it’s ok. No one is perfect. • Sometimes we need a little reminder that failing isn’t as heavy as regretting never knowing. • Im Curious of others thoughts or experience with regret?
